Everything is Coming Up Roses

Roses are one of my favorite flowers. I have had many different bouquets, some of my favorite colors are yellow, peach. I had blue ones once but the blue all came out in the water...I did not care much for those.

I have planted five miniature roses in my garden and they have been coming up for the last few years.

my husbands father brought his wife roses a couple of times a month. They were together over fifty years...I guess that is where my husband get this from. It is a very kind gesture...I do not want to sound ungrateful...but I do wish he would get me plants I could put in my garden so I could get happiness more than once from them. I have mentioned this to him, the roses continue to come. I believe its a way he hangs on to his fathers memory. So I will gratefully accept them and try not to think how we could be spending our money more frugal! I give it all up to a higher power that everything will be coming up roses!

Have a beautiful day and I hope you get a chance to smell the flowers!

  1. My friend just called me and said the exact same thing! Roses cost so much and die so fast . . . something for the garden will last many years. She has been trying for decades to make her hubby change. Next year she says she will ask for a trip to the garden center . .. take a hands on approach. Good luck! She also hinted that she will start buying him button-down collars for his dress shirts (he hates those, but it is close enough right? lol) Karen.

  2. oh, that IS such a romantic gesture your husband is making ... can you DRY the blooms he brings you and create indoor bouquets that way, maybe? Do you mean blue ROSES? I've never heard of/seen them!

  3. Hi Karen, nice to have you drop by. I definately can relate to your friend. I am hoping on a trip to the garden centre today. Hubby is still fast asleep on his day off. I might have to start dropping pots and pans to get the day going! Too funny about the dress shirts. Take Care.

  4. Hi Toni, yes it is romantic. I have dried some of them, i don't know if you saw the pictured window on a previous post. It was roses from my wedding. As for the blue roses they were beautiful, but I guess they had been dipped in dye. so when they were put in water they kept getting lighter and lighter! I like the real thing....no dye dipped for me! Hope you are well. Take Care my friend. P.S. I cut my hair yesterday again, called my sister last night and said hi, its your brother Chuck...Let me say it was not a good one...no pics of me for at least 3 weeks. LOL.

  5. What a sweetie your husband is. I adore roses, they can solve most of a days problems. Daisies too.

  6. I always gave my mom rose bushes instead of flowers - she loved that.

  7. Maybe he'll read your blog and get the hint! My father was always buying my mother plants for special occasions and they would plant them in the garden. When they were selling the house, my father wanted to dig out so many of them and he remembered what each plant represented which occasion! Great idea you have!!!

  8. I was once so enamored with a lady that I spent about 5,000$ over a period of 5 months on roses ... even to the extreme of sending them "psyche color-coordinated" in an attempt to trap her into my den....god what a cad am I..;-)..............you're a lucky girl.....he loves you..not his daddy.

  9. CINNER (or should I say Chuck?) ... darling, I LOVE SHORT HAIR ... I'm presently content enough with my curly do, but before Mom and I leave for England, I'm doing a short short short thing, a la Charlize Theron in that astronaut movie she did with Johnny Depp -- I have a couple photos of her from that movie actually LAMINATED and in my purse, cuz I tell you, once it hits 105 here, I don't want any extra anything on my person to add heat! (hee) anyway I bet you look cute; you're holding out on us, huh? ain't cha?!!!

One thing is I don't get them at xmas or Valentines day. He said he never wants to do it if he feels he has to. We got snow here last night but did get out and got some plants. they are all in the house. I want my yard to look like the one in your header, then my dreams will be fullfilled.

  12. Hi there,
I'm Karen's friend, (actually, I'm her aunt) and yes, my hubby and I have had this battle for 38 years. I think cut flowers are a waste of money and I also think it's something they can buy, without putting any real thought into it. For 33 years, I suffered in silence and another friend told me that I didn't have the right to complain, if I didn't explain to him how I felt. Soooooo, I told him 5 years ago, and he still keeps buying roses!!!!! This year, I "specifically" said, "please, no roses" and guess what - I still got them. That's when I declared war and said I would start buying him the shirts he doesn't like, for his special occasions LOL! I love plants for the garden, so what is the problem. I have now trained our 5 year old grandson to respond to the question "what kind of flowers does Nanny like? Corson will answer "outside flowers" and what kind of flowers doesn't Nanny like? He smiles and says "inside flowers". Maybe Papa will get the hint LOL!!!
