In Flanders Field

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915
Poppies (©greatwar.co.uk)

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

The above poem is one of my favorite poems. It reminds me of every year in school, we would all be summoned to the gym for the Rememberance Day Celebration! Let us all remember the men and women that have or are fighting for our freedom. The poppy is worn today to show our respect. Let us all stand tall. I say Thankyou and am Grateful.

  1. cinner,

i agree that we need to show our appreciation to our troops. what a wonderful thing they do for us! i was trying to find an email for you, but i'll just post here...the shot on lens us is a bridge and i think the roots going through it may be a tree root. that's really the only plant around there. i'm not sure, though...but it's fascinating how far up and around they go! thanks for stopping by my other site on occasion too. i appreciate it!

  4. A young teacher friend of mine had to read this to a class. There is something about reading out loud though and for the first time, it made her cry.

  5. I hope we can remember the men and women in the service more often than one day a year because they are working all year around to keep our countries safe for all of us. I know today is Veterans Day here in the U.S. and like the Christmas holiday season, I wish we could keep the spirit alive all year.

I watched something on tv today and it surprises me everytime I see these young mens faces, They are just boys, but I guess war does not know an age limit.

Dahni , thanks for letting me know, I was not sure and I would have been wondering for days. lol. hope you are well and thanks for stopping by. Take care.
